Listen to Vhirin
As part of the “New Caledonia New Zealand Season 2007”, Kanéka/reggae band Vhirin performs at Te Matatini, Cuba Street Carnival, Te Papa Tongarewa, Pasifika Festival, and Auckland Festival AK07.
Vhirin is a Kanéka/reggae band with its musicians coming from the tribe of Tchamboučne in the north of Grand Terre, the largest island of New Caledonia.
Kanéka music was created during the years 1984 to 1989 when political events shook New Caledonia, and is an expression by Kanak musicians of their identity and independence. Vhirin’s projects are linked to the evolution of Kanéka music and that of the youth of their country. Through the message of justice, peace, freedom and brotherhood that comes through in Vhirin’s music, the band wants to help free the country’s youth from the troubles that affect society.
